The muscles in our body are not only important for walking but for effective functioning of cardio vascular system. Sitting for long periods can weaken these muscles. Digestion also gets affected leading to accumulation of fats. It also causes hip flexor muscles to shorten which can lead to hip joint problems. Long hours of sitting can also lead to depression. The study findings published in the British Medical Journal state that being sedentary for 9.5 hours or more excluding sleep time, increases the risk of death. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends 150 minutes of moderate activity and 75 minutes of intense physical for people aged between 18 and 64 years. So, get up and move about at regular intervals.
