What could be the reason for going gluten free? Gluten free food is that which does not contain elements of wheat, rye and barley. Gluten is commonly found in bread, chapati, pizza and pasta. It can affect intestinal tracts in some people. So those who have gluten intolerance tend to avoid it. Gluten free labelled food products might use substitutes which can have a high GI (Glycaemic index) which is not good for weight loss or diabetes. Gluten free food may miss out on essential vitamins and minerals which lead to nutrient deficiency.
