Banana leaves or plantain leaves consist of plant-based components called Polyphenols (also found in green tea) which are natural antioxidants that can prevent diseases. It is not only healthy but eco-friendly and hygienic too. The natural coating on the banana leaf gives a distinct flavour to hot food. It also helps in killing the germs in food. They are best to wrap food too. While serving, the banana leaf is placed with the tip on the left side. After finishing the meal, one has to fold the upper half towards the lower half which indicates that one is satisfied with the meal. Banana leaves are extensively used in traditional Ayurveda medicines.
