Due to its antibacterial, antioxidant properties, cardamom is an effective home remedy for cough, cold. It is also useful in managing indigestion, heartburn, headaches and hypertension.
Green cardamom is smaller than the black one. Green Elaichi is the most common variety and it has intense flavour. Black cardamom has a smoky flavour. There is also white Elaichi which is nothing but the bleached variety of green cardamom.
It is safe to take 2 green cardamom pods per day.
Boiling water with 2 – 3 cardamom pods and having this water at bedtime helps metabolic process.
Elaichi that appears plump and green in colour are the ones with volatile oils intact. Bigger the pod size, more are the number of seeds. Adulterated ones might look unnatural green and volatile oils might have be extracted.
